ACE Curriculum

ACE Curriculum
Since 1970 Accelerated Christian Education has published individualized ACE curriculum for grades K-12. Students are tested diagnostically upon entering the program. Students are then placed in the curriculum in each subject at their own performance levels determined by the results of the diagnostic tests.

The unique format of the ACE curriculum allows students to advance from unit to unit as they demonstrate mastery. Students move independently
through the curriculum under the supervision of instructors who provide tutoring at the optimum moment of learning.

Accelerated Christian Education is more than quality academics. The curriculum is built on a theistic philosophic foundation. Students learn to see life from God's point of view. Their personal relationship with God and their personal responsibilities to family, church, and community are of primary concern.

The Four Keys to ACE Curriculum

1. Individualized:
The ACE Model adapts to the learning speed of your child. This is unlike the "Public School Model" where the group is lock-stepped regardless of the student's academic abilities. The ACE Model allows your child to progress independently through the curriculum and not as a group. The "Public School Model" holds back the faster learner and forces all the students forward regardless of their "learning gaps". Over a million alumni demonstrate that Individualized learning produces academic excellence.

2. Diagnosis & Placement:
The child is given a ACE Diagnostic & Placement test to determine current academic ability and clearly identifies any learning gaps within all subjects. For example, your child's English grammar may be above his/her grade level. However their punctuation skills may be below grade level. Your child is then placed in curriculum at his/her academic performance grade level in each subject and the learning gaps are then addressed. The diagnostic test may be purchased or taken online free.

3. Goal Setting:
The Students learn through setting daily goals and are challenged by marking their achievement. This key to learning allows the child to visualize and plan daily progress. This unique discipline of ACE places responsibility and accountability on the student for learning, thus establishing a lifetime appreciation for goal setting and achievement.

4. Mastery:
The Biblical value of excellence in all things we do is translated into mastering subject content. This is the foundation upon which all future learning is built. The ACE Model reinforces honest achievement that results in advancement. Students must master a minimum of 80% of the material before advancing.

What is a PACE?
Accelerated Christian Education has taken the conventional textbook and divided it into bite-sized, achievable, worktexts called PACEs. Each PACE is more or less equivalent to a chapter in a textbook. Each level consists of 12 PACEs in each subject.

PACEs integrate character-building lessons into the academic content and are carefully designed to develop thinking skills and create mastery learning. Students begin their PACE work by reciting their goals-the concepts they will learn, a Bible verse, and a corresponding character trait. From the very beginning they know what is expected and they assume the responsibility for their own learning!

Introduction to new vocabulary words, throughout the curriculum, is computer controlled so that no word is used without the student first learning its meaning. Full color explanations and illustrations add excitement to each lesson. Innovative learning activities reinforce the interesting text material.

The Checkup is a minitest covering a section of the PACE. If mastery in an area is not achieved, the Checkup will reveal weak areas. In unusually challenging concepts, student and supervisor can take the time necessary to review and learn those concepts. Upon the completion of the activities and Checkups, students prepare to take the Self Test-a practice test. Here students evaluate themselves to determine readiness for the final Test. When the self Test is successfully completed, the student turns in the PACE and takes the final Test the next school morning. The final Test objectively measures student mastery of the material. Since 1970, in Christian schools and homes around the world, PACEs have proven to be effective tools in goal setting and achieving academic excellence.

Reading Development
Believing that reading is the doorway to education, the ACE program offers several avenues by which children can learn to read or increase their reading ability.

In the 1930s and 1940s, most children learned to read by studying phonics. Then schools began using the "look-say" or "whole language" method. It was thought this would help students learn faster, but such was not the case. Conclusive studies demonstrate that children and adults who are taught phonics learn to read better and faster than those who do not receive phonics training. ACE incorporates the phonics method in all reading courses.

Kindergarten Reading
The Kindergarten program features a complete scope and sequence of concepts and skills needed to prepare K3-K5 children to be ready to read. The PACEs are filled with animal pictures, activities, and full-color picture stories to excite children about reading. Students will learn social skills, the wonders of God's world, and the reality of God' love. The Daily Instruction Manuals features an easy-to-use format for guiding children from pretesting through a kindergarten graduation program.

Grade 1 Reading-ABCs with Ace and Christi
This multi-sensory, phonetic learning-to-read program is designed to prepare a child for the individual instruction of the PACE curriculum. Within a period of 12 to 15 weeks, students become acquainted with cartoon animals, songs, and stories. These features help first grade students learn letter sounds, alphabet sequence, and word relationships. Your child is helped in both physical and character development through poems, displays, and various activities. The Daily Instruction Manuals make teaching fun and easy.
