This course is designed to be a student’s first systematic introduction to the sciences. Although it can be used for eighth grade (especially if the student has recently left the public schools), it is typically used best in the seventh grade. The course covers such topics as the scientific method, designing experiments, simple machines, archaeology, geology, paleontology, biology, and human anatomy and physiology. Its scope, therefore, is quite wide. There are many hands-on experiments to do, and they all use household items.

Students who do not have a lot of experience taking tests which require them to truly master the course material might have trouble with this course at first. However, the study skills required for this course are absolutely essential for high school and beyond. It is prudent, therefore, for the student to learn these skills now rather than put them off until later.

The Companion CD-ROM is the multimedia companion to the printed general science textbook. It contains all of the multimedia add-ons that can be found on the Exploring Creation with General Science CD-ROM (NEW 2nd Ed. CD-ROM available July 2008), but excludes the text of the course. This is the perfect item for those who want to use a printed textbook but are interested in the extras that can be found on the CD-ROM. the videos and animations are viewed using Microsoft Internet Explorer. Like the CD courses, however, this CD does not use the Internet. The Microsoft Internet Explorer is simply used as the user interface because it is easy and familiar to most students.
