Musicademy Music Instruction DVD’s

Christian Music Lessons Music is a big part of our lives here at Pennywise Learning. Two of us are worship leaders and have a love for worship music. For the last couple of years we have tried to find a music instruction solution to offer Homeschoolers.

Finally, we are pleased to announce Musicademy Instruction DVD’s. These DVD’s contain a year’s worth of music lessons. The focus is on learning to play worship music and offers tips and instruction from some of today’s most influential worship leaders. At present, there is instruction for beginning and intermediate guitar, keyboard, and vocal. Worship drums and bass instruction is coming soon.

If you are considering beginning your student in music lessons, I would encourage you to invest in a quality instrument. There are plenty of cheap instruments on the market but if you really want your child to develop a love for learning the instrument, then spend a little more and get the “right tool for the job”.

Philosophy 107

“Don’t be over self-confident with your first impressions of people.” -Chinese Proverb

It’s easy to compare ourselves to our impressions of others. We tend to compare the “macro” view we see in ourselves to the “micro” view we see in others. Then we inflate the micro view into a macro perception of them.

In other words, we only see little glimpses into other people’s lives but we tend to believe that the little we see when people are at their best is the way they are all the time. We take this view and compare it to the big picture of our own lives. Often times, it is not a fair comparison.

I hate hearing someone tell us they are discouraged with their family after they have been around my family. I know that they are comparing their family to what they saw when we were at our best. What they don’t see is the days (or weeks) that our family operates like a run away freight train. It is not fair to their family to be held to those standards.

It is good to set high standards for our families and to find others that we admire and respect to push us to higher levels. But we do need to be careful not to elevate each other beyond reality.

Saxon Math Help

DIVE Tutor for Saxon Math

DIVE Screen ShotsSaxon Math is an excellent math curriculum. With over 20 years of successfully preparing Homeschoolers for SAT, ACT, and college math, it is no wonder why it is one of the best selling math curriculums.

It can however be a challenge for parents. We have spoken to some parents who just aren’t very good with math, and others who spend hours the night before working out the problems so they can teach the math to their children the next day. Either way we suggest using a tutoring supplement to fully take advantage of what Saxon offers and save time.

DIVE is an excellent tutoring program for $50.00 if purchased separately or $45.00 if purchased with a Saxon Math book. DIVE CD’s are a PC based program that teaches the concepts taught in each lesson and offers problems similar to the problems found in the Saxon Math textbooks.

DIVE Math CD-ROMs teach every lesson in each Saxon Math textbook, from Math 5/4 through Calculus. DIVE lectures teach each lesson step-by-step on a digital whiteboards that looks and sounds like a live classroom lecture, with the added advantage that students can easily rewind, fast forward, or pause with the click of a mouse.

Lectures average about 10-15 minutes each. Students review the lessons and then work on the practice problems presented, pausing, rewinding as necessary until they understand.

We have had many parents and students approach us and tell us what a blessing DIVE has been and they couldn’t have made it through the curriculum without it.
