Music is a big part of our lives here at Pennywise Learning. Two of us are worship leaders and have a love for worship music. For the last couple of years we have tried to find a music instruction solution to offer Homeschoolers.
Finally, we are pleased to announce Musicademy Instruction DVD’s. These DVD’s contain a year’s worth of music lessons. The focus is on learning to play worship music and offers tips and instruction from some of today’s most influential worship leaders. At present, there is instruction for beginning and intermediate guitar, keyboard, and vocal. Worship drums and bass instruction is coming soon.

If you are considering beginning your student in music lessons, I would encourage you to invest in a quality instrument. There are plenty of cheap instruments on the market but if you really want your child to develop a love for learning the instrument, then spend a little more and get the “right tool for the job”.

DIVE Tutor for Saxon Math
Saxon Math is an excellent math curriculum. With over 20 years of successfully preparing Homeschoolers for SAT, ACT, and college math, it is no wonder why it is one of the best selling math curriculums.
It can however be a challenge for parents. We have spoken to some parents who just aren’t very good with math, and others who spend hours the night before working out the problems so they can teach the math to their children the next day. Either way we suggest using a tutoring supplement to fully take advantage of what Saxon offers and save time.
DIVE is an excellent tutoring program for $50.00 if purchased separately or $45.00 if purchased with a Saxon Math book. DIVE CD’s are a PC based program that teaches the concepts taught in each lesson and offers problems similar to the problems found in the Saxon Math textbooks.
DIVE Math CD-ROMs teach every lesson in each Saxon Math textbook, from Math 5/4 through Calculus. DIVE lectures teach each lesson step-by-step on a digital whiteboards that looks and sounds like a live classroom lecture, with the added advantage that students can easily rewind, fast forward, or pause with the click of a mouse.
Lectures average about 10-15 minutes each. Students review the lessons and then work on the practice problems presented, pausing, rewinding as necessary until they understand.
We have had many parents and students approach us and tell us what a blessing DIVE has been and they couldn’t have made it through the curriculum without it.

Newly Updated
The Art of Argument is one of my favorite logic curriculums. This text does not really teach one to argue but rather the logic behind the argument. There are twenty-eight informal fallicies presented and over sixty advertisments for items like blue jeans and pick-up trucks for sudents to apply the fallicies to.
This is a great course and I would highly recommend it. Click here for more info!

Horizons Math, published by AOP is an excellent choice for elementary math.
This advanced level curriculum uses a spiral learning method allowing students to master concepts through a process of introduction, review, and reinforcement. Using a traditional format, lessons are taught using the teacher’s guide. Each level includes the Teachers guide and two brightly illustrated student workbooks.
Students master introductory math concepts and gradually progress to more challenging subjects such as decimals, graphs, measurements, angles, ratios, and equations. Lessons are fast paced, colorful and engaging.
Selected as one of the top 100 math curriculums in Cathy Duffy’s 100 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum, Horizons Math is a great alternative to the Saxon K-3 curriculum. Available in K-6.

Let’s clear up a couple of things that usually cause some confusion when talking about Saxon.
First, there are two versions Saxon Math. There is a Homeschool edition, which is what we sell and a school edition which can only be purchased from Saxon.
Thus students attending schools can not purchase the answer keys on the Internet and cheat.
We regularly have students, and even school districts attempt to purchase the Homeschool Math from us thinking that the editions they are using in school will match. If you are looking to purchase the school edition Saxon Math, please click here.
The second area of confusion is regarding the publisher. Saxon Math is published by Saxon Publishers but in 2004, Saxon Publishers was purchased by Harcourt Archive. So it is not uncommon to hear someone refer to Harcourt when talking about Saxon Math. To read about Saxon’s history, click here.
